Water filters are the most important thing, especially if you use tap water to make coffee. These carbon filters can only effectively remove chlorine and other contaminants from water if the quality of the tap water in your area is not too bad.
Personally, I use tap water to make coffeeKeurig, but is only recommended if the quality of the tap water is good and drinkable. Otherwise, use bottled water or filtered water.
But do all Keurig coffee makers have a water filter?
No, all Keurig models do not have water filters. Most Keurig models have a location for the water filters in their water tanks, but you must purchase the water filters separately. There are some models, like K mini, mini plus and Rivo, that don't have space for water filters. These machines are very compact, with a water reservoir capacity of only one cup, so they technically cannot hold water filters.
Read on to find out if your Keurig machine is compatible with water filters and how and when to change your Keurig's water filter.

How to change the Keurig water filter
To ensure you brew a perfect cup of coffee every time, and to maintain the longevity of your Keurig machine, you should regularly clean, descale, and replace the water filters. Otherwise there may be problems such asLeaks in the machine, or theMachine does not pump water properly.

Here's a step-by-step guide to replacing your Keurig machine's charcoal water filter.
- Before installing the new water filter in the machine, the filters must be soaked and absorb water. So put it in a bowl filled with water for 5-10 minutes. In the meantime you can remove the old water.
- Detach the water tank from your machine if it's detachable, or simply remove the top if it's not.
- Now hold the water filter holder with your hand and pull it out with a strong pull.
- Remove the clip holding the charcoal filter and discard the old filter.
- After soaking the new filter for 5 to 10 minutes, rinse it thoroughly with water.
- Also clean and rinse the handle of the water filter thoroughly, especially the bottom part as this is where a lot of dirt will accumulate.
- Insert the new filter into the filter handle with the rounded top facing up and reattach the clip.
- Now turn the dial on top of the filter handle to the next month when you need to change your water filter. Ideally, change the water filter after 2 months. So if January (Jancall upmonth) turn the dial to March (3rdrdmonth) and serves as a reminder.
- Finally, put the water filter handle into the water tank and press down firmly to lock it.
How often does the Keurig water filter need to be changed?
How often you should change your water filter primarily depends on the quality of the water you use for brewing and how much you use your coffee maker.
KeurigrecommendsChange the water filter every two months or after 60 tank fillings, whichever comes first.
Some Keurig water filter handles also have a dial that allows you to set a timely filter change reminder.
Keurig water filter cartridges are carbon-based filters that are effective at removing chlorine and other contaminants from water when new, but over time their filtration capacity diminishes and they become completely useless after saturation. That is why it is very important to change it in time.
Need a Keurig water filter?
You can use Keurig coffee makers without a water filter, but it is not recommended, especially if the water you use for brewing contains minerals and other contaminants. If you use distilled water to brew coffee, you can safely use your Keurig machine without a water filter.
Water filters are very important. Even if you think coffee tastes fine without a water filter, you still don't know how damaging unfiltered water can be for your machine.
Unfiltered water contains a lot of minerals which can collect in the machine's pipes or boiler and shorten the life of the machine, which you definitely don't want!
What is the best water for Keurig?
It is always good practice to use filtered or bottled water at Keurig. Not only does filtered water make the most flavorful cup of coffee, but it also contains the perfect amount of minerals, typically less than 100 ppm, resulting in less machine buildup and a perfect cup of coffee..
I personally use filtered tap water in my Keurig and it works great. It contains the right amount of minerals so my coffee has more flavor and not too much which can damage the machine.
