Did you know that it is illegal in Nevada to keep a painted shopping cart in your basement?!
We've all heard of strange laws here and there, but these strange rules are far more common than I expected.
Walt Disney Animationsstudios / Viatenor.com
I fell down a weird rabbit holeold US lawsrecently, and man was it hard to recover from! There are SOs. MANY!
(Speaking of rabbits, did you know that it's illegal to photograph rabbits in Wyoming from January through April?!) (Source:Stephen Titus Law)
I could go on all day, but here's a collection of some of my favorites!
1. Oklahoma and Ohio: Dogs are not allowed to make faces
Fly_dragonfly / Getty Images/iStockphoto
Have you ever caught your dog looking at you and making a silly face? Well, you would have committed a crime if you had been in Oklahoma!
And strange as it may sound, Ohio law is even more extreme — if you do itAnyA dog face, silly or not, could result in a fine or jail time! (Source:dogs magazineAndGutSam)
2. Florida: It's illegal to sing in a bathing suit
Iryna Veklich / Getty Images
Imagine. It's a sunny day and you're in a bathing suit on the beach. Your friend made a great playlist and you start singing with your toes in the sand while the warm breeze blows. Well, you're a criminal now!
In Florida it is actually illegal to sing in a bathing suit. There is also a law against singing on the radio while walking alone.
I guess if you're in doubt when you're in the Sunshine State, just don't sing in public! (Source:US Courthouse)
3. Arizona: You can't have a donkey sleeping in your bathtub after 7 p.m.
Wirestock/Getty Images/iStockphoto
This oddly specific law was passed in 1924 after an Arizona merchant's bathtub plunged into a valley when it burst a dam, carrying his sleeping donkey into turbulent waters.
Hundreds of people pitched in to save the sleepy, soaked donkey, so the law was enacted to prevent danger to future donkeys dozing in the bath, and to save everyone a great deal of time and trouble. (Source:In the study)
4. Kansas: It's illegal to serve ice cream on top of cherry pie
Gerenme / Getty Images/iStockphoto
Someone must have had strong feelings about the cherry pie and ice cream combo at some point when a law was enacted against the combo!
It's not clear how this came about or if this law is still on the books, but it won't be enforced if it is, so you can enjoy your criminally delicious dessert without a night in jail! (Source:United States today)
5. California: It is illegal to eat an orange while bathing
Vladyslav Havrylov / Getty Images/iStockphoto
I would like to know if there is a list of foods that are considered acceptable bath snacks, but apparently eating an orange in the bath was illegal since it was believed the citric acid could react with the natural oils in the bath and cause an explosion.
We've learned a lot since the law was passed, but technically it still stands today!
(...but really, how are they going to enforce this???) (source:In the study)
6. Alabama: It is illegal to drive blindfolded

Now I could not find any exact informationWhyThis law has been passed but I would say it is quite strict when it comes to curbing dangerous actions on the street! (Source:Good cleanliness)
7. Arkansas: It is illegal to honk in any place that serves cold drinks or sandwiches after 9 p.m.

This oddly specific law has shaky origins online, but it seems to keep overly excited guests from disturbing the peace while they wait for their late-night snacks. (Source:Fox News)
8. Delaware: It is illegal for a pawn shop to accept an artificial limb or wheelchair as payment
Yackers1 / Getty Images
If you break this law, you will be fined a whopping $10,000!

So if you say you'd give an arm and a leg, try your luck outside of Delaware!

9. Georgia: It is illegal to eat fried chicken by any means other than hands
Gmvozd / Getty Images
Although the law was part of a publicity stunt aimed at establishing Georgia as the “Poultry Capital of the World”, it is a real law nonetheless!
That means it's technically illegal in Gainesville, Georgia to eat fried chicken with anything other than your hands. The actual enforcement of this law is absolutely hilarious, with the last arrest being in 2009. A 91-year-old woman named Ginny Dietrek was "arrested," and her report urged her to remain at the table until she had eaten the whole chicken with her hands, "to the point of licking her fingers while swallowing the last available morsel."
Crowned Princess of Honor of the Georgia Chicks, Ginny is in good company, with KFC's Colonel Sanders also making the list of chicken-eating rebels! (Source:Andrea Colemann)

12. Kansas: It's illegal to throw knives at men who wear pinstripes
Yul38885 Yul38885 / Getty Images/iStockphoto

13. Georgia: It is illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole or street lamp
Wirestock/Getty Images/iStockphoto
This law is specific to Atlanta, GA and I just have...questions. Was it common in Atlanta to have giraffes as pets? Did they tie her to telephone poles while shopping? There were SO many giraffes that lawmakers said, "Right, we need to put something in to stop all those giraffes from sweeping the sidewalk"?
I just need to know. (Source:Only in your state)
14. New York: It is illegal to shine shoes after 1 p.m. on a Sunday

21. Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia: It is illegal to walk down the street with an ice cream cone in your back pocket
Andjela Milosevic/Getty Images/iStockphoto
Apparently this dates back to the time when horses were the most common means of transport. Horse thieves could lure a horse away with the promise of a waffle cone and technically they could avoid being accused of stealing the horse afterwards because for some reason the horse would mysteriously not leave them alone afterwards! (I too would follow a stranger who offered me an ice cream cone).
So, to even solve the problem, the legislature made it illegal to be outside with an ice cream cone in your pocket!
